In conversation with Katy Hessel and Chloe Stead // Women Artists of the Renaissance and Baroque
Art History with Katy Hessel
Italy, the home of Dante, is at the heart of my imagination, my memories, and indeed, my brand, after his namesake: Alighieri.
Italy’s rich history of art was always a subject that attracted me, as it’s so intertwined with Dante’s work. Living in Florence for a year, I was enveloped by the magic: from fading frescos in old libraries, to hidden masters tucked away in dimly lit churches, and sculptures embellishing the facades of chapels. I yearn to be back in Piazza Santo Spirito! Thus, we decided to create Alighieri Old Town in London!
To bring a piece of Art History to Alighieri Old Town, we have invited our dear friend Katy Hessel of @thegreatwomenartists Instagram and Podcast, to host two talks in the mini Piazza.
Women Artists of the Renaissance and Baroque
With Chloe Stead and Katy Hessel
Thursday 13th August
The Town Gates are open from 6.30pm - 9pm
Talk starts at 7pm
Join Art Historian Katy Hessel and Chloe Stead, Old Master Painting expert and Senior Director at Colnaghi, as they take you back to 16th and 17th century Italy to discuss the women artists of the Renaissance and Baroque. From Sofonisba Angussola – the woman who broke down gender conventions in the 1550 – to the great Baroque trailblazer, Artemisia Gentileschi, this talk will give an introduction to the life and work of some of history’s most formidable and often forgotten women artists.
All tickets include an aperitivo and your very own Tour Guide Book. There are only 15 places for each talk, don’t miss out! Guests are welcome to potter around the Old Town and enjoy 15% off all modern heirlooms.
For each ticket sold 100% of net profits will go to Refuge, registered charity number 277424.
